These are the Legal Requirements for Costa Rica Marriages:

A marriage in Costa Rica is legal and binding if processed properly. It is mandatory that the ceremony is over seen by a certified public notary for a marriage license to be issued by the Costa Rican Civil Registry. We will coordinate these logistics and ensure that your embassy will authenticate your marriage.

You may print this page for your personal check list. The following items are requested of you in order for us to process your marriage correctly, depending on your particular circumstances:

IF NEITHER OF THE PARTIES HAS BEEN PREVIOUSLY MARRIED!

For both Bride and Groom we need the following data:

    Home Address
    Profession/Occupation
    Passport Number
    Nationality
    Birth Date
    Place of Birth
    Father's full name and nationality
Mother's full maiden name and nationality
    Parent's address
    Original copy of passport

GKL and Associates will handle the rest…

All your data and statements will be included in a sworn statement which you both sign the day of the wedding. You don’t need to notarize any of these documents at the Costa Rican Consulate. Our Firm will take care of all the details.

IF EITHER OR BOTH PARTIES HAVE BEEN PREVIOUSLY MARRIED

For both Bride and Groom we need the following data:

In addition to the above list an official copy of Final divorce decrees, certified or notarized at Costa Rica's Consulate or Embassy. If you have trouble getting certain documents such as the divorce decree, please contact us for a quick solution

If the bride is divorced, her divorce date must be at least 300 days prior the date of the up coming wedding. If not, she must present a negative pregnancy test to the nearest Costa Rican consulate for authentication.

GKL & Associates will handle the rest…

IF EITHER OF BOTH PARTIES IS A WIDOW OR WIDOWER

For both Bride and Groom we need the following data:

In addition to the above list we need a copy of death certificate, certified or notarized at Costa Rica's Consulate or Embassy.
