COSTA RICA IMMIGRATION:
The two most common types of residency for Costa Rica Immigration are shown below. Costa Rica Immigration Category PENSIONADO After
Retirement
1. Requires proof of US$600 per month income from permanent pension or retirement fund. More than one pension can be combined to meet this requirement.
2. You must exchange income within the National Banking system.
3. You cannot work as an employee, but you can own a company and receive income.
4. You must remain in the country for at least 4 months per year
5. And your Residency is re-newable every 2 years.
Costa Rica Immigration Category RENTISTA Recieving a Permanent Income
1.Requires proof of US$1000 monthly income for at least 5 years, guaranteed by a banking institution.
2. Or you may deposit $60,000 in an approved Costa Rican bank.
3. You are required to exchange income within the National Banking system.
4. You can not work as an employee, but you can own a company and receive income.
5. You Must remain in the country for at least 4 months per year.
And your Costa Rica Immigration residency is re-newable every 2 years.
Note: Pensionados and Rentistas can claim their spouses and children under 18 as dependents (or a child between 18 and 25 enrolled in University)with no further income requirement.
We provide detailed instructions on how to handle all documents in your country of origin
and in Costa Rica including some sample letters through our office.
The Costa Rican Consulate in your area must authenticate certain documents originating
outside of Costa Rica. Before a member does that, we encourage faxing the documents to our office to ensure the documents are correctly and fully completed.
These documents are required for all types of Costa Rica Immigration Residency
1. POLICE CERTIFICATE of Good Conduct from your last place of residence. Valid for 6 months.
Required for applicant, spouse, and any children aged 18 to 25.
2. BIRTH CERTIFICATE. Required for applicant, spouse, and all dependent children
(up to 18 years old or up to 25 if a university student - proof of enrollment is required).
3. MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE (if spouse wishes residency). Proof of divorce is not needed.
4. INCOME CERTIFICATE for Pensionados and Rentistas (required for only the applicant).
Pensionados -proof of a pension of at least US$600/month stating that it is for life, and that it will be paid in Costa Rica. For the U.S. Social Security pensions, it is easier to obtain the certification at the U.S.Embassy in Costa Rica.
Pensions from other government agencies (all countries)and institutions must have a letter stating that the pension is either paid by the government or statement verifying the type of institution paying the pension.
ALL THE ABOVE DOCUMENTS OBTAINED OUTSIDE OF COSTA RICA, MUST BE:
Notarized by a local notary of public if they do not have an official government seal
If in doubt about the need to have it notarized, check with the local Costa Rican consulate.
Your signature must NOT appear in the notarization of the document.
The Costa Rican consul in the country where the document was issued must authenticate it.
A Costa Rican consulate will charge you US$40 for authentication of each document.
They must affix stamps worth that amount to collect the money. If their policy is not to affix stamps at the consulate, then we will obtain them for you here in Costa Rica.
ALL DOCUMENTS MUST BE TRANSLATED INTO SPANISH
Translations of Documents: All translations from English to Spanish can be done through our office. Translations from other languages to Spanish have to be either done by the Costa Rican consulate in the country where the document was issued or here in Costa Rica by an "official" translator for the specific language to Spanish. We can arrange for the service at the cost of the translator. Translation from the original language to English is not accepted by the Costa Rica government.
